HEAL FOR AFRICA INITIATIVE will officially launch the PATH project to commemorate the Menstrual Hygiene Day on the 28th of May 2018 (MHD2018) at Al Ansar Secondary School, New Layout, Lokoja, Kogi State.
Menstrual Hygiene Day is a day set aside globally to educate young girls and ladies in particular and the general public about Menstrual Hygiene as well as break the stigma and clarify myths and misconceptions around Menstruation.
PATH Project has put together an event to commemorate the day which features a health talk on Menstrual Hygiene, a practical session on how to make Reusable Sanitary Pads with locally available materials and distribution of free sanitary pads/ personal hygiene products to participants.
PATH became a child of necessity for HEAL FOR AFRICA INITIATIVE because we have identified that in this part of the world, menstruation is perceived as a filthy, shameful or a negative process that should not be discussed and because of this misconception, girls have little or no access to quality information about menstruation and menstrual hygiene. Also, school girls have limited access to affordable and hygienic sanitary materials thereby making them prone to infections that may affect their reproductive health in future.
To make this day a success, we will be needing Sanitary Pads, Antiseptic Soaps and other personal hygiene products, Refreshment for 200 students, Photo and Video coverage, Banners, Flyers, media publicity and funds to cover other logistics.
After this launch,we will proceed to repeat this same exercise in more schools across the 3 senatorial districts in the state and beyond till we cover Africa.
HEAL FOR AFRICA INITIATIVE is an incorporated non governmental, non profit organization committed to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 – 6 via health Literacy and free medical services, Women
Eempowerment, Eeducation for the girl child, Advocacy for women’s rights, showing Affection and ensuring better livelihood across Africa, especially in the slums. The PATH project will address health issues affecting women and girls and also promotes Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
It is our sincere wish that no Child stays out of school because of her periods. We also want to empower these girls with enough knowledge to prepare them for a healthy womanhood.
