New-fangled Façade; Truth Unsheathed: A Poem by Adediran Olusade

The End has been called
The truth is bathed with a voice
Roaming the streets, screeching
The voice as a roaring beast
Summoning the dying quest
Arousing the riveting thirst

The End raises a beginning
To the wakening of agility
Long humbly-oversoaked
in temperance and loyalty
But the End has come
To put a stop to the menace.

The burning pressure ravaging
Lives meant to be preserved
Betraying the trust thrust
In a country with a leader
Silent at night and day
But we go out of our way
To disclose cruelty in human
End police brutality
We are not animals
We deserve to live

End to the mirage
End to the criminals
End to the enemies of freedom
Shame to the withering hands in action
Shame to the emptiness in uniforms
Who have turned the oath to oats
Sapping like others
are strangers and nothing
But we clamour for an End
And the End is here

We want a better today for tomorrow
Deaf to retreat
Our voices will not shrink or cease
Pens will not cease to bleed
That we are Nigerians
We are not lazy or dizzy
We are active
We know what to do
We own our lives
We deserve the best hope
